Ugh, I’m tired! It’s 1 a.m. and we just got back to the hotel after the long and emotional opening ceremonies (where I shook the hand of Larry Hagman, um, wow). I also got to meet two other Games MVPs (at least in my eyes). One was Chris Klug, who had the same disease as Joe did (PSC), got a liver transplant, and then 19 months later went on to win the bronze medal for snowboarding in the 2001 Olympics, and also start the Chris Klug Foundation.
The other was Kim Jacques from Team Florida, who has been elevating so many of the athletes excitement over the past several weeks through her enthusiastic and humor-filled posts on the Transplant Cafe message forum. She’s seven feet tall when she stands on her amazing attitude and positivity!
I honestly can’t say much more than that tonight, mostly because I’m exhausted. But I took tons of great shots as the teams were gathering backstage, and I promised all these lovely people I’d post them tonight, so here they are! Good luck in the events, athletes!!
