Wisconsin resident and graphic designer Shannon Steffen wanted to champion the cause of organ transplants, and thank the selfless acts of organ donors and their families, after her beloved husband received his successful double-lung transplant in November 2004. (He had Cystic Fibrosis. He’s doing well today.) The medium she chose? Graphic design: Shannon runs the Angel Cove Organ Donation Awareness Shop, an online source for tees, stickers, magnets, mugs, license plate frames, ornaments, teddy bears, and much more, all bearing phrases like “ask me about my transplant” and “my daddy gave the gift of life.”
So far, Angel Cove doesn’t offer any merchandise specific to living donors (but I’ve left her a message in hopes we can change that).
I have added a permanent link to this site at left, under “Transplant Gift Ideas.”
Thank you for spreading the word about my site and the importance of organ donation awareness. It truly means a lot to me and my family.
God bless!
Becky..I see that you stopped by my blog. Thank you. I’ve read through your last couple of posts…I will be keeping your brother Joe in my prayers. Although I have not undergone any transplant, your blog inspires me VERY much. In Feb 2007 I had part of my cervix removed due to cancer cells found. Little did I know that 16 months later I’d be getting sick, real sick. I initially thought it was the flu and found out almost 2 months later that it was a large tumor on my liver. I had surgery to remove the tumor the last week of August. Overall, I’ve been doing good. I’ve some terrible issues with the dissolvable stitches (and still am). I’ve been discouraged with all of my health issues and knowing that I still have to be monitored because there was another tiny tumor they found underneath the large one they removed. It’s further down in, so they are hoping it doesn’t grow like this one.
Nevertheless, keep doing what you’re doing. You are a beautiful person, educating the world, and I know you are saving lives by doing so.
*hugs*
“Organ transplant” is an expensive thought and it is not comparable with any other gift.
Thank you all who are related with this donation process.
